This spring, members and friends of the Architects’ Architect’s Association of New Brunswick and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada will gather in Saint John, St. John, New Brunswick, the traditional home of the Welastekwewiyik (also known as Maliseet); the “people of the beautiful river.”  As President of the RAIC, it is my distinct pleasure to invite you to join us from the 30th of May until the 2nd of June to celebrate “Ports and Portals: Getting There from Here” this year’s theme for our annual Festival of Architecture.

The festival website contains all the information you need to plan your time with us whether your objective is to:

  • explore this magnificent city through the many tours on offer;
  • connect with friends and colleagues at the trade show or the extensive array of social events;
  • expand your expertise with our focused lineup of relevant and topical continuing education sessions designed to enhance    knowledge, advance design and grow business;
  • engage our host community in conversations about why “architecture matters” to them and you;
  • to celebrate our best at the Presidents’ Dinner and Awards Gala;
  • or all of the above!

It will be a very busy four days to be sure.  However, I hope that you will be able to find time to have a conversation with me or other members of the RAIC board to help us better understand how we may be of service to you.

Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I extend my personal welcome to you, on behalf of the Architects’ Association of New Brunswick (AANB), to the 2018 Festival of Architecture.  The event will be co-hosted by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the AANB in Saint John, New Brunswick from May 30 to June 2, 2018.

The historic architecture of Saint John combined with our Maritime hospitality will ensure you return home with great memories of a unique experience. The city offers natural wonders such as the world-renowned Bay of Fundy tides and the Reversing Falls as well as the urban experiences of our galleries, fine dining, and a vibrant nightlife. The conference theme, “Ports and Portals, Getting there from here,” is founded on the unique qualities of Saint John. Being a historic port and the oldest incorporated city in Canada, Saint John embraces the importance of its past while building into the future.

The Festival will be taking place at the Hilton Hotel and the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre supported by neighbouring venues of note.  Festival delegates will experience enlightening education sessions as well as tours of unique local areas, facilities and buildings. All this, while strengthening the profession and our professional development.  The Festival of Architecture facilitates getting us there from here.

We are excited to have this opportunity and look forward to welcoming you to Saint John, New Brunswick.
